Recommended Tires For 5x7 Trailer With 12 Inch Wheels For Long Highway Driving
Question:
I tow my motorcycle on a 5 x 7 trailer from Massachusetts to Florida at todays highway speeds what is the best tire last winter I bought the load range c I believe they were high speed is there a better tire and is a radial better 5.30/12 tires

Expert Reply:
The 5.30-12 tires fit on a 12 by 4 inch wheel. For your application, I definitely recommend a radial tire over a bias tire. The 90 degree cross belt will give you a better ability to keep traction on highways and will dissipate heat better.
The best tire I can recommend for your wheel size is the Kenda Karrier S-Trail ST145/R12 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E, # AM10140. This tire will have a speed rating at 65 mph max and a load capacity of 1,520 lbs at 80 psi.
The speed rating is higher for larger tires, but there isn't a 12 inch tire recommended for greater than 65 mph speeds. Bias tires aren't rated for speed, and don't hold up as well under highway speeds. To go faster, you'd need to upgrade your trailer, so I'd keep my cruise set and make sure my bike got to FL safely.
