Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for 2012 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Question:

I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sahara . I want this bike rack and understand that I will not be able to access the back of my jeep with the swing open door. Will this rack fit on the back of the jeep and flip up with the rear tire?

Most Jeep Wranglers have between 10 and 12 inches from the center of their hitch pin holes to the outside of the rear spare on the back of the vehicle. The Thule T2 Pro XTR part # TH83JV has a distance of 7 inches from the center of it's hitch pin hole to the nearest portion of the rack when folded up so it would not be able to fold up at the rear of your vehicle.

For a similar platform bike rack that will clear the rear spare and is also very lightweight check out the Saris Superclamp EX2 part # SA4025F. We have found that this rack (with 12 inches of clearance) works well on Jeep Wrangler Unlimited like yours. Check out the video I attached to see the rack test fit on a 2014 Unlimited.
