Since your 2005 Toyota 4Runner has the factory tow package, all you will need is the brake controller and the vehicle specific wiring harness for your vehicle. Take a look at the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller # 90885 and wiring harness # 3040-P. One end of the wiring harness plugs into the back of the brake controller. The other end plugs into the vehicle harness located under the dash to the left and above the emergency brake pedal. The vehicle side plug could also be under the dash to the right of the steering wheel.
You will also notice that there is an additional white ground wire on the brake controller wiring harness. This wire will need to be attached to an existing ground location or to a bare metal surface that is clean and corrosion free. Connection of this wire is required to supply a sufficient ground so the brake controller will work properly. I have included a link to the installation details as well as a link to a video showing installation on a similar vehicle.
