Recommended Cargo Hitch Carrier for a 2014 Ford Escape
Question:
Hello, I am having a hard time deciding which is the best for my money and needs. I have a 2014 Ford Escape, I put a class 3 hitch on it. I am looking for a hitch cargo carrier that meets the following: Raised to prevent exhaust issues. Pretty sure I want one that is foldable, and safe to drive when folded. It would be great if it came with lights already instead of needing to buy them accessories, but I can if that is the only option. This will be used for traveling, luggage mostly so I dont need 700lb capacity, 500 should do it. Once I arrive at destination I dont want to have to take it off and store in the hotel room, so folding is probably a must. Im worried folding might extend it too far from the vehicle and will cause troubles. Thank you for taking the time to respond.

I have two different recommendations for a hitch cargo carrier that should sit above the exhaust on your 2014 Ford Escape.
I recommnd the etrailer Carrier, part # e98874. This is a 500 lbs carrier that is folding and has a 2 inch rise. This carrier has a 19-1/2 inch distance from the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the carrier when in use, so this might help with your exhaust issue. It also has a tilting option when loaded. Since none of our cargo carriers come with lights pre-installed, you will need to use the Light Kit # e98943-44LED with this option. Also, installing lights on a cargo carrier is very easy, much easier than on a car and there is no cutting, splicing or drilling required.
I have included some demonstration videos for you as well.
