Do you need any dealer parts to intstall the brake controller. I have wiring for flat pin previously installed but bought a trailer with electric brakes. Hitch place I called said it needed a dealer part beforeI even showed them the SUV ?

There isn't anything from the dealer you will need to install an electric brake controller on your 2011 Mercury Mariner.
Since you already have a 4-way trailer connector all you need to add is our installation kit # ETBC7. This will provide you with the 7-way trailer connector, as well as the wiring and circuit breaker needed to install a brake controller. I've attached a video of the # ETBC7 being installed on a 2011 Ford Escape which will be the same process as your Mariner.
If you don't already have a brake controller I suggest the Prodigy P2 # 90885. This is a proportional brake controller that will apply your trailer's brakes in proportion with your SUV. It's one of our best selling controllers because of how easy it is to set up and how reliable it is.
