Is it Required to Install Relay in Harness of Tekonsha Prodigy P3 for 2012 Audi Q7
Question:
There is some conflicting info about having to install a relay in the wire harness of Tekonsha Prodigy P3. The tech bulletin is almost 10 years old and some people claim that Tekonsha upgraded their brake controller to eliminate the need of the relay. Would you please clarify?..Thanks!!

I spoke with our contact at Tekonsha and he informed that the technical bulletin you are referring to is still valid. To install the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 into your 2012 Audi Q7, you will need to obtain a 12 volt normally open relay at a local Audi dealer.
You will connect the ground terminal of the relay to a known, good ground under the dash. You will then connect the trigger terminal of the relay to pin # 3 of the Prodigy P3. Then connect the red wire from the Prodigy P3 to load terminal of the relay. Lastly you will connect the source voltage terminal to a 12 volt source.
After this you will continue to follow the installation instructions, which I have attached, for the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller.
If you do not already have a 7-way plug in the back of your Audi Q7, you will need a universal wiring harness such as the # ETBC7, which includes everything you need to install an electric trailer brake controller and 7-way connector.
