Tire Recommendation for ST215/75R14 in Load Range D

Question:

Ive read many of your posts and looked at lots of the specs on the 14 inch trailer wheels and tires. The more I see the more confused I am on rim load ratings. I have a 2000 single axle boat trailer that I am working on. The trailer and boat weigh about 3600 lbs loaded with gear and fuel. actual measured weight. The 14foot galvanized wheels have ST215/75D14 load Range C tires that are old and cracking. My intent is to move up to load range D tires for some load margin, better mileage, and possible higher speeds for several long trips this year. I like the look and your customer ratings on the Provider ST215/75R14 tires and want to be sure I can run up their pressures for appropriate wear and speed. I cannot find a pressure rating on any of my 3 galvanized wheels. The 14 Tire -Wheel sets you sell with load range D tires claim the full tire load rating but the wheels all show the load C capacity of only 1870. Is there any reason I cannot put the new Load Range D tires on my existing rims with my actual load? The tires are in my shopping cart and I was hoping to order while you have the free shipping deal.

The Provider Tire part # TTWTRTM2157514D that you are interested in are a great option for the tire size of ST215/75R14 that you mentioned. These are Load Range D with the capacities of 2,200 lbs at 65 psi and have a higher speed rating of 81 mph.

65 psi should be no problem at all for your current rims as most are rated for much higher than that. You might only check to make sure your valve stems are rated that high as that is typically the weak point.

We do not have the Provider # TTWTRTM2157514D available in a tire/rim combo, although you can still always add the wheel separately. The Dexstar # AM20352 will work perfectly. For a tire/wheel combo in this size I highly recommend the Goodyear Endurance # 724865519A. The Endurance line actually represents the only radial ply trailer tires available that are made in the USA.
