Recommended Reese Weight Distribution System for 2001 Ford F-150 Towing Trailer with 7000 Pound GVWR

Question:

I would like to purchase a Reese weight distribution hitch. I have a 2001 F150 SuperCrew 4x4 5.4L 3.55 ratio that will be pulling a 20foot Haulmark enclosed car trailer curb weight 3025, GVWR 7000. What do you recommend?

To determine the correct weight distribution for your setup you need to find your trailer's loaded and ready to tow tongue weight plus you'll need to add in the amount of weight stored in your 2001 Ford F-150's truck bed behind the rear axle.

Your trailer's tongue weight should fall between 10 to 15 percent of the trailer when it's loaded and ready to tow. However, the best way to get your trailer's tongue weight is to weight it using a tongue weight scale, # e99044.

Once you have your trailer's tongue weight add that to the amount of weight you will have packed into your truck bed behind the rear axle to find the total tongue weight. The total tongue weight is what you need to base your system on. You'll want the total tongue weight to fall right in the middle of the range the system is rated for.

If you're full loading your trailer you're going to need a system like the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66560 which is rated for up to 1,200 pounds. For a lower Reese system # RP66559 is rated for 1,000 pounds. Or if your trailer isn't loaded near that heavy # RP66558 is rated for 600 pounds.
