Recommendation for an Engine Oil Cooler and Remote Oil Filter on a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with 5.7L

Question:

Im looking for an engine oil cooler. I would like a remote mount filter and built in thermostat. Im looking at D15451 but Im unsure if it has a thermostat. I have read some oil coolers have a temp set at 180 if it goes over that then it runs though the cooler. I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.7 engine. Thank you,

The Derale Plat-Fin Engine Oil Cooler Kit, # D15451, will fit your 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 with 5.7L engine.

The kit has multiple adapter sleeve nuts that you will use to install sandwich adapter to your Dodge's engine. According to Derale, the 22mm x 1.5 hex sleeve nut is the correct sleeve needed for your 2005 Dodge Ram. Follow the instructions for installing the remaining components of the oil cooler kit. You can view the instructions for # D15451 by clicking on the link at the bottom of the this page.

This kit does not include a thermostatic switch for the engine oil cooler. Unlike a transmission coolers, the design of this cooler must have a constant non-interrupted flow of engine oil to ensure that engine components will maintain lubrication at all times during operation. If you put a thermostat in-line, oil flow would interrupt until the oil reaches the set temperature and opens the thermostat. This lack of oil circulating through the system would cause catastrophic engine failure. This is way using a thermostatic switch with an oil cooler is not recommended.

I have included a FAQ article on engine oil coolers for your review.
