I currently have two 4.80x12 tires on my trailer and wanted to get a wider tire. It is a five bolt rim. What size can I use and the cost

Helpful Expert Reply:

The 4 x 12-inch rims you have now for your 4.80-12 trailer tires cannot accept another tire size so in order to use wider tires you will also need new wheels. Since there are several types of 5-lug trailer wheels I have linked you to our main page for all wheel/tire combinations.

The most popular 5-bolt type is the 5-on-4-1/2 pattern but the linked article will show you how to confirm which you have. Then simply click on that bolt pattern on the linked page to see options.

You can choose between radial and bias ply types and various wheel materials. Just click on the filters to select the attributes you want. For example, for a 145 width radial in Load Range D you could use # AM31199DX.

Be sure that your trailer has enough room for the wider tire and for its diameter too. You want to have no less than 3-inches of room above the tire to allow for normal suspension travel. Always keep trailer tires fully-inflated to the psi pressure noted on the tire sidewall.
