Custom Base Rails for Reese 5th Wheel Hitch on 2012 Chevrolet Silverado

Question:

We have a Reese 20k that looks like 30033. We have the rails too but would like to get the new custom brackets and hardware to install the rails and brackets. We have a 2012 Chevy Silverado 3500 with a 6 1/2foot bed . The hitch was bought used so we cant see the exact model number but it looks like the 30033.

The Reese 20K 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30033 that you have is compatible with Reese above-bed rails and can be used with the Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit # RP50066-58 on your 2012 Chevrolet Silverado. The custom kit will minimize drilling and measuring, cutting the installation time in half.

Since your Chevrolet Silverado has a shorter 6-1/2 foot bed, I do recommend a Sliding Fifth Wheel hitch like the Reese 18K # RP30144 as opposed to the Fixed Reese System that you have. The slider will provide greater clearance when making sharp turns and has a premium single-hook locking jaw that offers superior king pin contact for greater security and minimal rattle while towing. You can also use this with the Custom Rail Kit # RP50066-58. I have included a video demonstration of this product for your review.

Lastly, I recommend a 5th Wheel Wiring Adapter like the Bargman # 50-97-410. Once installed this will provide a 7-way connector in the bed of your truck for simple trailer hookup.
