Recommended 7-Way Trailer Connector And Brake Controller For 2016 Toyota Highlander
Question:
My in-laws had a towing package installed by the dealer on their 2016 Toyota Highlander. There is a 4-pin connection, but they have a tent trailer and need an 7 pin connection. What can I do to fix it? My 2007 Toyota Tundra came with both 4pin and 7pin as standard. Thank you,

For their 2016 Toyota Highlander with factory 4-way, I recommend the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. This kit will use their current 4-way and give them a 4-way and 7-way connector when installed. This kit comes with all the wire, connectors, and circuit breakers needed to install. I have linked an installation video to help.
For the brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller that will apply the trailer brakes with the same pressure and at the same time as they hit the brakes in their Highlander. This controller has an easy to read and understand LCD screen that runs diagnostics and lets you know any problems without needing to decipher any codes. It has 3 levels of boost and is customizable to your driving preferences.
