Hello i am looking to add a trailer brake controller to my ram to tow a travel trailer and was wondering if the Hayes was the right way to go?

The Hayes Brake Controller you asked about is a time-delayed controller. A time-delayed controller has a preset intensity and is activated when the brake pedal is pressed on the towing vehicle. The brake controller also has a manual override, and can be mounted at any angle or direction. For your Ram 1500 you will also need the plug-in adapter, part # HA81795-HBC.

This is a proportional brake controller that activates the brakes on the trailer with the same intensity as the braking action of the towing vehicle.
