How to Determine Parts Needed to Install Brakes on Boat Trailer
Question:
Looking for a kit to install brakes on a boat trailer that did not come with brakes. It does have the square 4 hole flanges. It is a tandem axle. Which axle or both would a kit go on? I need to get more specifics on the wheel size and fender clearance, lugs, etc. Do I need brakes on both axles?

Since you have brake flanges on your axles that is a great sign as installing brakes will then be much easier. If you check out the link I attached you will see a help article that covers what is needed to add brakes to a trailer. Basically it comes down to determining what spindles your trailer has so that you can find the correct hub/drums and then build from there with the right brake assemblies.
Normally for boat trailers people will run just one axle of brakes. Since boats carry their weight at the back the normal axle to use is the rear one.
