Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch And Trailer Adjustment Options For 2016 Ram 3500-6Ft Bed Factory Rails

Question:

I have a 2016 Ram 3500 SRW with a bed height of approx 47inch and the top of the tailgate is 60. The 5th wheel I want to get has a pin height of 49.5inch and the bottom of the front cap is 63.5. Can I make that work? All the hitches I see are about 12-17inch tall. That would put me nose up about 10, right?

For your 2016 Ram 3500, I recommend the Curt A20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R20 Slider - Dual Jaw - 20,000 lbs, # C16541 along with the Adapter Rails for Curt 5th Wheel Hitch w/ Slider - Ram Towing Prep Package # C16022. I've linked a video of this hitch and adapter rail kit. This hitch is adjustable from 17-1/2 - 21-1/2 inches. This will give you adjustability to ensure you won't hit the bed or tailgate of your truck.

There will also be adjustability on your pin box on the trailer you are looking at. This will allow you to make sure you get the best towing height combination to keep the trailer as level as possible. If you are nose up, you can look at installing taller spring hangers on your trailer or use an over-under axle kit that is axle capacity specific like # K71-385-00. With the truck and trailer on level ground you would want at least 4 to 6 inches of clearance between the tops of the bed sides and the bottom of the trailer overhang. If you can get that by adjusting a hitch and the pin box on the trailer then that is what you are aiming for.
