Installation of the Draw-Tite Time-Delayed Brake Controller, part # 5504 could not be simpler.

Under the dash, above the emergency brake pedal you will find a bundle of wires with a white tag hanging on it. This is your tow package wiring. The brake controller will wire directly into this bundle of wires. The black wire on the controller will attach to the red and black striped tow package wire. The red controller wire attaches to the light blue and white striped tow package wire, the white controller wire attaches to the white tow package wire and the blue controller wire attaches to the blue tow package wire.

If the controller does not power up once connected to the tow package wiring, there will be two additional wires under the hood that need to be connected. Locate the power distribution box on the inside of the drivers side fender. Remove the cover. At the front of the box, you will see two threaded studs. Between the box and the fender, look for a wire with a ring terminal on the end of it. This wire provides power to the brake controller. This ring terminal will attach to the threaded stud closest to the fender. If you need the 12-volt power supply circuit activated for any trailer accessories that need power, look for a red wire located under the brake booster. This red wire will also have a ring terminal on the end of it. This wire will attach to the threaded stud furthest away from the fender. The factory does NOT supply the M6 x 1.0 or the M8 x 1.25 nut needed to secure the wires to the studs, although we offer them. The M6 nut is part # 185916, and the M8 nut is part # 185917.
