Recommendation on an Engine Oil Cooler on a 2008 Toyota Tacoma with 4.0 L V6

Question:

I would like to add an oil cooler to my Tacoma. I tow a boat and another trailer. I believe it has a transmission oil cooler already. Any recommendations please.

I have a solution for you for an engine oil cooler for your 2008 Toyota Tacoma. The Derale Tube-Fin Engine Cooler Kit w/ Adjustable Sandwich Adapter, # D15505, is a tube-fin cooler design that uses the sandwich adapter to connect to the oil filter base on the engine.

The kit includes multiple filter sleeve nuts for multiple applications on different vehicles. For your 4.0L V6 on your Toyota, you will need to use the 3/4 inch -16 thread sleeve for your application.

For a more higher performance cooler, I like the Derale Stacked-Plate Engine Oil Cooler Kit w/ Sandwich Adapter, # D15605. The stacked plate design of this cooler is more efficient than the tube-fin design coolers. You will be able to cool engine oil faster because the stacked plate design dissipates heat faster. The cooler will improve the overall performance and functioning of your engine. You would still use the 3/4 inch -16 sleeve adapter with the stacked plate cooler.

The only disadvantage is the stack plate cooler is less cost efficient than the tube-fin cooler.

I have included an article that has more information on engine oil coolers for you to review.
