Can Tire Chains Be Used On 2012 Chevrolet Volt

I have a 2014 Chevrolet Volt. Which snow chains/cables work for the vehicle. owner manual says due to low clearance, snow chains can damage vehicle. But online posts show some people have had success with snow chains. Any advice?

I did some research and read in the owner's manual on page 10-58 that tire chains are not to be used.

We do run into this problem with customers wanting to take their vehicle where chains are required by law. The owner's manual says not to use them so it can be very confusing. Due to the clearance around the tire that is required when using tir chains, you may be able to use a Class S chain that has a much lower profile than standard chains. We have tire cables that many customers use on their vehicle when they have restricted clearance.

If you decide to use chains on your 2012 Volt and you have 215/55-17 tires on your vehicle, I recommend the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains, part # PW1038. I have attached a link to our website product page for the tire chains that are designed to fith that size tire.
