What is Required to Disconnect From Trailer With Weight Distribution System Installed
Question:
Can a attached weight distribution hitch be disconnected from the tow vehicle simply by removing the pin from the receiver and driving away. I have seen this a several campgrounds.

There would be too much spring bar tension to allow the shank of the system to slide out of the hitch. If you were to remove the hitch pin and try to drive off the trailer will follow you. You will have to lower the spring bars and jack the trailer up and off of the hitch ball.
Even without a WD system installed if you removed the hitch pin of the ball mount the downward force of the trailer tongue is going to prevent the shank from sliding out of the hitch.
