I went out into our warehouse and pulled a Hopkins Endurance 5-Way Flat Trailer Connector - Trailer End, part # HM47910, and it has 16 gauge wires.
You may also be interested in a Hopkins Endurance 5-Way Flat Trailer Connector - Vehicle End - Ergonomic Design, part # HM47900, that has 16 gauge wires also.
