Will the PowerTrac Brake Controller Work with 2009 Ford F-150 factory Brake Control Wiring Harness

Question:

Hi My Ford F-150 has the factory installed 535 towing package, which includes the 7-prong trailer connector and Ford p/n 9L3T-15A416-AD harness adaptor kit. 1. Can the 39523 brake controller be used with this factory wiring adaptor? Is anything else required? 2. Will the brake controller adversely affect the trucks anti trailer sway function? 3. If I am using the 4-prong trailer plug for my small boat, will water affect the brake controller, through the unused rear 7-prong receptacle, when the rear of the truck is under water and the brakes are applied?

Yes, you can use brake controller # 39523 with the Ford brake controller wiring harness on your 2009 F-150. But you will have to cut off the connector on the brake controller and hardwire it to the Ford harness by function. The Ford harness should be labeled as to the functions of the wires. The brake controller uses white for ground, black for 12 volt power, blue for output to the trailer brakes, and red for input from the brake switch.

The brake controller will not have any effect on the truck's anti-sway function.

When backing a boat trailer in water it is possible for the water to cause a short. If you have to back up so far as to have the rear of the truck in the water I recommend taking a look at longer ball mounts. I have included a link to the longest ones we carry.
