The online edition of the owner's manual for your 2016 Subaru WRX notes on page 8-10 that low-profile S-Class tire traction devices can be used on the car's front axle only. It further states that you should use only devices rated by their manufacturer as suitable on your specific tire size.
We do have options for your P245/40-18X tire size that are shown on the linked page. These do not include any of the ISSE snow socks, please note.
If you are looking for low-cost chains that will allow you to meet a legal requirement - but you do NOT expect to use them much if at all - then you can go for an inexpensive cable chain set like Glacier # PW1038. These are a bare-bones type cable that will let you comply with the letter of the law when driving in areas where chains are mandated. I recommend using rubber adjusters with these, part # PW105.
But on the other hand if you are an avid skier who drives hours to the slopes twice a month and you are pretty sure you will be installing and using these chains multiple times then I urge you to invest in a better product that will be easier to install, less likely to scratch your rims and also be far more effective in bad winter driving conditions.
As a step-up item I suggest the Konig # TH01221102 which will work much better than cable chains. Up from there I would suggest the Pewag Servo chains # PWRS75. These include rim protection, automatic tension control and a quick release features.
The linked article on tire chains will help you consider your best option. Note ALL tire chains require reduced driving speed - no more than 30-mph. I also recommend that no matter which chains you purchase from etrailer that you do a dry-run install in the relative comfort of your garage or driveway before heading out into your first winter weather.
