Recommended Drill Bit And Thread Tap For Tailgate Assist Application

I ordered a new tail gate assist and would like to replace the old one, I was wondering if theres a way to remove The thread where the bolt goes on on the tailgate and replace it with the new one

To remove the old threading and replace it, I recommend you use a drill bit and tap in the size M12 X 1.25. You will need to determine the diameter you wish to have as the replacement and order that kit. Obviously this will require you to match a new bolt to the new threaded diameter.
