Recommended Bike Rack for an Electric Adventurer Bike with a Step Through Frame

Question:

I have just completed installing the Curt trailer hitch on our 2011 CR-V which I had purchased from E-trailer last month. We tow the Honda behind a our motorhome and would like a bike rack to accomodate the Honda and the bikes we have. Will the XTC-2 work on step through bikes? We currently have two Adventurer folding bikes that were phurchased, one 24inch non electric and one 20inch electric bike. Naturally, I am not looking at folding them when I would put them on the XTC-2, but because they are very low slung would the XTC-2 work on them.

The Swagman XTC-2 # S64670 is designed to fit a wide variety of bike frames. The bike hooks are adjustable and can even hold kid's bike frames. Since one of your Adventurer bikes is electric, and the weight capacity on the Swagman XTC-2 is 70 lbs (35 lbs per bike), I recommend using a bike rack that is better suited for the extra weight of the electric bike.

Hollywood Racks has the Trail Rider Bike Rack # HR200Z that operates very similar to the Swagman XTC-2, but has a weight capacity of 90 lbs (45 lbs per bike). I recommend using this bike rack to better accommodate your heavier electric bike. If you have very low step-through bars you will want to use the Hollywood Racks Adapter Bar # HRBA-PRO to make sure that the bike hooks can properly secure your bikes to your bike rack.

Even though the Trail Rider has an anti-rattle bolt pin, I also recommend getting the Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock and Cable # HRLHPTC. This combination will lock your bike rack to your hitch, and your bikes to your bike rack to help deter theft. It is very easy to use and can provide peace of mind when leaving your Honda with your bike rack and bikes still on it.
