Comparing Benefits Of Carrying Spare Tire On Spare Tire Carrier Versus Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier

Curt C31006 Just wondering what the benefit would be using this vs. strapping my spare tire flat to a hitch haul cargo carrier? The curt would carry the weight higher and a bit closer to the receiver where the hitch haul would carry the weight lower to the receiver, but distribute the weight further from the receiver. Thoughts?

There are a couple of different ways to look at carrying your spare tire. With the Curt Trailer Hitch Mounted Spare Tire Carrier, part # C31006, it will hold the tire securely upright and give you a little more clearance at the back of your vehicle. This can be great when using parking spaces.

On the other hand you can use a hitch mounted cargo carrier like part # C18151, but if you have a 13-inch or bigger tire it may not lay flat because of the size of the carrier. That could be a hassle trying to secure the tire with straps. Tires 13-inches or larger will measure more than 24-inches diameter.

I recommend going with the # C31006 as it is designed to do one thing and that is to carry your spare. The carrier does not come with hardware so you will want to use grade 5 hardware when secxuring the tire to the carrier.
