Best Fat Tire Bike Platform Rack Recommendation
Question:
We are looking for a do it all bike rack that will carry our touring bikes without having to take off the fenders as well as our mountain bikes with 29x3 inch tires. We have been looking at the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 and the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 hr1450. Both say that they will carry a three inch tire, but I have had some issues with that claim in the past. My favorite fat tire platform bike rack is the Saris SuperClamp EX part # SA4025F. This rack is US made, can fit tires up to 4-1/2 inches wide, only grabs the bike at the tires, has a 60 lb per bike capacity, but my favorite feature is that it only weighs 35 lbs. That's incredible lightweight for a platform bike rack. Most are around 60 lbs.
In addition to the top wheel hooks, the front and rear wheel cradles both use straps to secure your bikes so the rack WILL work with bikes with fenders as confirmed by Saris.
