Axle for Small Camper Trailer With Electric Brakes and 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern Hubs

Question:

I am making a small camper, 72inch wide x 120inch long. I want electric brakes and I would like to use the same size tire as my 4x4 toyota tacoma, 265 70R 16. What would you recommend?

In order to choose the correct size axle you need to factor in several things. The width of the frame needs to the same as the spring centers of the axle and there needs to be enough clearance between the spring centers and the hubs to allow room for the wheels and tires, plus some clearance to avoid the tires making contact with the trailer.

So you have a 72 inch wide trailer with tires that are approximately 10-1/2 inches wide. Only half of each tire width needs to be factored in because the other half will be sticking out the sides. Plus you'll want 4 to 6 inches of clearance (2 to 3 inches per side). So this puts your hub face at approximately 88-1/2 inches (72 + 10.5 + 6).

If your trailer's frame is 74 inches wide from center to center, and the hubface is 88-1/2 inches, the Axle # e43SR will fit your trailer. It has a spring center to spring center measurement is 74 inches and the hub face is 89 inches. It has a weight capacity of 3,500 pounds, EZ-Lube spindles, a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt a pattern, and electric brakes. It also includes the bearings, races, and seal.
