Cam Door Lock For Use On Workshop Doors

Question:

Picture below shows a garage/workshop I am building and I am making the workshop outside entrance from surplus siding and 1x4s inside and out to reinforce it. Photo below shows the first door I made yesterday. I am not going to put handles on it so there will be nothing for burglars to pull out on and am going to put secure stops at the top and bottom to prevent pushing the doors in, but I think I need something better than standard door hardware to secure the doors together and am considering purchasing one of your cam lock door latches. Would you recommend this device for securing two halves of a shop door 7 ft x 7 ft together? Also what else would I need for this assembly it says mounting hardware not included. I dont repair trailers and dont know about the interfacing parts although I have opened a similar latch on a U-Haul trailer. Thanks for your consideration!

A cam-door lock will work great for what you are building. The 55" Lock Side-Door Bar Lock Assembly, # 3057-55, will only give you a portion of the assembly you need. I recommend the Universal Cam-Door Lock for Enclosed Trailers - 1" Keeper, # 383200, for your application. This will give you everything you need other than the 3/4" inner diameter pipe. That will allow you to customize the locations for the cams to best fit your doors.

These locks do not come with the bolts to secure to your door, but often carriage style bolts are used for increased security. You will need to determine what length bolts you need based on your custom application.
