Comparing Weight Distribution Systems for Travel Trailer Weighing 9500-Lbs
Question:
Just your thoughts between the Husky Centerline HT32218 vs Curt Tru Track C17501. On a 346 TT Tongue #1100 Trailer weight loaded around #9500 Dodge Ram 2500 Tow Vehicle

Expert Reply:
Selection of a weight distribution/sway control (WD/SC) system is based on matching the system's operating range to the fully-loaded trailer's actual measured tongue weight (TW). We offer a handy scale # e99044 to measure but other methods are outlined in the linked article. Any cargo in the tow vehicle that sits behind the rear axle, such as a loaded cooler or generator, also has to be added to the TW figure since this cargo will act just like trailer TW. Ideally your total TW load will fall right near the middle of the system's operating range.
If your unloaded dry hitch weight is 1100-lbs then the lower-rated Husky Center Line # HT32218 may not have enough stiffness. For this system a maximum TW of 1000-lbs would be ideal. If on the other hand your loaded TW with all cargo accounted for is more like 1200-1300-lbs, then you will definitely be better off using the higher-rated Curt system # C17501. If your loaded trailer weight is 9500-lbs then definitely go with the higher-rated system since usual TW for a properly-loaded 9500-lb trailer will be in the range of 1300 to 1400-lbs.
