Can Scooter Lift And Scooter Be Carrier On Back Of 2009 Kia optima
Question:
I have a 2009 kia optima. I want to install a hitch so I can put a light duty lift and mobility scooter on it. I get a different answer every place I contact. Can a lift with a 200 lb tongue weight be installed on this car and not overload its capacity?

The trailer hitch I recommend for your optima is the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch, part # 24778. This is a Class l hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening.
I did some research and per your owner's manual on page 5-45, the tongue weight capacity for your Optima is 176-lbs. That weight would be the combined weight of the carrier and the cargo you place in the carrier. You want to make sure you do not exceed the tongue weigth capacity of your vehicle.
Based on the weight of the lift and the scooter combined I doubt these would be an option for your Optima.

-2011 KIA Optima EX 2.0Turbo -disabled combat vet -small mobility scooter. Can I modify rear CHASSIS + SHOCKS + ETC, to install a class 1-2 hitch. It's either that or buy a new/used vehicle that can do the job. I'd also like to be able to buy a canoe/jonboat with trolling mtr & aluminum trailer. I really love this car. It "fits" my disability, has ALL the bells & whistles, Infinity System & SiriusXM, heated-a/c-leather seats, navigation, etc... Seems cheaper to modify this car to do the job rather then buy another car. ANY HELP OUT THERE???
