How to Select Trailer Tires for 1964 Tag-a-Long Single Axle Travel Trailer

Question:

Im looking to put a set of tires on a 1964 Go Tag-a-Long travel trailer. Its a single axle, 14 ft box with an estimated weight of 1500 lbs. Are these the specs you have or am I underestimating the weight?

Trailer tires, like trailer wheels and trailer brakes, should be selected to match the capacity of the trailer's axle. Axles usually have a sticker or plate on them that indicates their weight capacity. The trailer's main identification plate or sticker will usually indicate its gross weight limit (GVWR) and sometimes its axle capacity.

Trailer tires of the appropriate size should be selected based on the amount of weight they need to support. Any given size tire may be offered in several weight load ranges. For example, in the ST205/75-15 size we offer three load ranges, B, C, and D, that can handle different amounts of weight. Our main page for trailer tires is linked for you. For example, ST205/75-15 radial trailer tire # TR20515D is a Load Range D tire capable of handling 2150-lbs at its rated 65-psi cold tire pressure.

Please feel free to tell me your axle weight rating (or the trailer's GVWR) and your current tire size and I will be glad to offer recommendations.

Trailer tires should always be fully inflated to the maximum psi pressure rating noted on the tire sidewall. You may care to review the two helpful articles on trailer tires.
