To shut off power to the 12 volt circuit in a trailer connector on your 1996 Dodge 3500 all you have to do is install solenoid # PK5231201 in line with the 12 volt wire. The 12 volt wire from the trailer connector will go to one of the side terminals on the solenoid. Then a wire will go from the other side terminal to the positive battery terminal.
For the center terminal on the solenoid you will want to attach it to a 12 volt ignition source which is any circuit that only has power when the key is in the on position. A common circuit used for this is the radio.
