Disc Brake Kit for Single Axle on a Tandem Axle Boat Trailer
Question:
I have a 1983 21 Ft Sea Ray on a tandem axle Easy Loader roller trailer. The boat its self weighs 3,430lbs. I want to swap out the old drum brakes with a disc brake kit. Currently both axles have drum brakes, but Im wondering if I really need both axles braking with the weight Im at?? Is there a general guide for weight vs braking axles?? Any recommendations would be appreciated. I use you guys all the time. great products, delivery service, and follow-up.

The more brakes you have the less work each has to do. But in terms of weight you would want the braking system to be rated at least as high as the weight of the trailer. Given that your boat weighs under 3,500 pounds the total weight of it and the trailer would not be too much more than that so you should be good to go with a braking system on one axle rated at 3,500 pounds.
In order to determine what will fit your trailer I will need to know the inner and outer bearing numbers stamped into the sides of the bearings. If you are switching to disc brakes the old drums will have to come off anyway.
