Will Tonneau Cover Fit Over Reese Fifth Wheel Hitch # RP30081 On 2011 Chevy Silverado 3500HD

Question:

I have 2 questions. First of all, I am concerned that the handle of this hitch might be higher than the bed rails in my truck and make it hard to put the tonneau cover over the hitch. Can I use my tonneau cover with this hitch on my 2011 Silverado 3500HD. Second, the instructions for the custom install kit # 50066-58 list a kit with 4 bolts in the rails and one with 10 bolts in the rails. How do I know which one to get? Thanks in advance. I hope for a quick answer as I need to order the hitch ASAP.

On the Reese Fifth Wheel 20K Trailer Hitch # RP30081 the measurement of the handle height will depend on the hitch height setting that you will have to use to tow your fifth wheel trailer. The center section of the hitch has four height settings. If the center section of the hitch is installed on the bottom holes the distance from the truck bed to the top of the head is 18 inches. If the center section of the hitch is installed on the top holes the distance from the truck bed to the top of the head is 14-1/2 inches. The handle will be about 4 to 5 inches above the head of the hitch.

You will want to measure on your 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD using those measurements to see if the tonneau cover will be able to fit over the fifth wheel hitch.

The base rails are available in both 4 bolt and 10 bolt application and can be used on either the universal installation kits or the custom installation kits. We recommend to use the 10 bolt rails with the custom installation kit which will give you better strength and keeps the rails more secure to the truck bed.

I recommend the Reese Quick-Install Custom Base Rails and Installation Kit # RP50066-58. This has the 10 bolt base rails and custom brackets that use existing holes in your vehicles frame.

I do not recommend the universal kit because the installation time is twice as long as the custom kit and there is more drilling involved with the installation.

I am including links to the installation instructions on the Reese 20K Hitch and the Reese custom install kit.
