Equalizer Weight Distribution System Recommendation for 5,000 lb Trailer

Question:

I have a 2016 Ram 1500 with factory tow package towing a Winnebago 19ft Micro Minnie. The trailer weighs 3100lbs Dry and will probably weigh no more than 5000lbs loaded. I like the Fastway E2 and Equalizer weight distribution hitches because they seem simple and have few parts. Which ones will work for me? Also, are you able to install the 2-5/16 ball?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

For a 5,000 lb trailer the tongue weight would end up being between 500 and 750 lbs. For an Equalizer system good for that you would want the # EQ37060ET for if the tongue weight is closer to the lower end (below 600 lbs) or the part # EQ37100ET if closer to the higher end.

The hitch balls come with the kits but we cannot install them for you.
