Weigth Distribution System Recommendation for Trailer with 1,500 lbs Tongue Weight
Question:
I am looking for a weight distribution hitch. I have a jayco T26Y toyhauler with a hitch weight of 1,070 lbs and a GVWR of11,950 lbs. I will be pulling it with a 2012 F250 super duty. most of the time the trailer will be loaded for weekend trips, the truck will have as many as three dirt dikes in the back so Im guessing the weight behind the rear axle could be as much as 500 lbs at times. What WD hitch would you recommend, I would like to have one with sway control to help combat the wind we have here as well. any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.
Lets go with your tongue weight being right at 1,500 lbs with the weight of your dirt bikes. For that you would want the Reese Strait Line System part # RP66075 which has a tongue weight range of 1,000 lbs to 1,700 lbs and features the only sway control on the market designed to fight sway before it starts.
If you have a 2-1/2 inch size hitch you would need the shank part # RP54977 as well. For a 2 inch hitch you would want the shank part # RP54998. For a hitch ball you would want the part # 63840.
