Adding a 7-Way, Battery, and Interior LED Lights for an Enclosed Trailer

Question:

I have a 6x12 Wells Cargo enclosed trailer Id like to add a battery and LED interior lights to. It just has the basic 4 flat wiring. Would it be benificial to ad a 7 way connector to the trailer to maintain the battery while towing? What is my best course of action and what parts would you suggest I need to purchase to light my trailer. Tow vehicle is a Toyota Tundra with both 4 and 7 way trailer connections.

It would be a good idea to add a 7-Way trailer connector such as # H20042 to the trailer so you can utilize the 12 volt circuit on the Toyota Tundra's 7-Way connector to provide a maintenance charge to a trailer mounted battery.

On the above 7-Way the green wire is running lights, brown is right turn and brake lights, black is 12 volt that you will run to the battery on the trailer, red is left turn/brake lights, and white is ground. Usually on a 4-Way you will have white as ground, brown and running lights, yellow as left turn/brake, and green as right turn/brake.

The unused wires on the 7-Way can be capped off.

You will also need a battery box such as # 329-HM300BKS which accepts group 24 batteries. The group indicates the size and if you go to an auto parts store to get a battery just make sure you ask for one with a group number that matches what the box can accept.

For lights you can get several of # 277-000343 which is a surface mount light. The more you use the brighter it will be. I recommend running power from the battery to a switch, # PK34513, and then from the switch to the lights.
