Recommend Brake Controller And Instructions For 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab

Question:

I have a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie Crew Cab with the 5.7 Hemi. I have the wiring and the hitch on the truck, but it doesnt have the control. It was suppose to and now I cant buy one from Dodge. I would like to mount in same location as stock control. So I need one to fit in the space provided by Dodge and would like to know if yours is plug and play. If not, have instructions for my application, please. Do you have anything for me? My Dodge Dealer sent me to you, I hope you can help!

Yes, I can certainly help you with getting your 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 hooked up with a brake controller.

The item you selected, Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885, will work great on your Dodge Ram, and I would recommend it. The P2 Brake Controller is a proportional brake controller, so it applies brake power to your trailer in proportion to the brake pressure applied to your vehicle.

If you have a factory 7-way on the truck then all you will need to install your brake controller is Tekonsha Brake Control Adapter, part # 3021-P, which is plug and play.

If you have a 7-way installed, that is not from the factory, you will need to make sure the correct wires are connected to the brake controller. If your truck came with a factory 4 flat connector and then a 7-way was added to the truck, then you would install your brake controller using, part # 3021-P.

The function of the wires that come out of the brake controller are as follows: Blue Wire is Brake Power that connects to the 7-way, Black Wire is Power that is ran to battery, Red Wire is Stoplight which connects to stop light switch, and White is Ground that connects to negative battery terminal. You would hook your brake controller up this way if your Dodge Ram, does not have a brake controller adapter plug under the dash. The plug should be located under the driver side of dash near brake pedal and kick panel and may be tucked up under dash.

For mounting the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, it comes with a mounting bracket, and is recommended to be mounted in reach of the driver. If you were to mount it where the stock brake controller was suppose to be, you will want to make sure that the manual over ride switch can still be used. I am not for certain that it will fit in the stock location, but I can provide you the measurements of the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller. I walked out to our warehouse and measured the P2 Brake Controller, it measured approximately 3-1/4 inches wide, 5-1/4 inches long, and 2 inches tall.

I have linked instructions for the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller and an FAQ on brake controllers that you may find as a good reference. I have also linked a video install of P2 brake controller on a Ford truck that shows how brake controllers are typically mounted when installed.
