Why Does Manual Override Lever of Brake Controller Illuminate Trailer Brake Lights

Question:

I have a Hopkins agility controller Im trying to install in a 06 silverado with the towing package. I have the pins set up as instructed. My trailer brake lights come on when I hit the override and my top break light also comes on. No numbers on the display just a small red light on bottom right

Everything is most likely working just fine. Most modern brake controllers will put voltage on the brake signal circuit they are attached to when the override lever is applied so that your trailer brake lights would come on as you are applying braking power to the towing setup.
