Trailer Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier that Allows Tailgate to Open on a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500
Question:
Im looking at the curt C18152 and the sport rack vista SR9849, as I need a carrier with minimum of 20inch inside clearance. My question is about the angled shanks from 21/2inch to 2inch rise on these carriers. With the carrier installed and unloaded will I be able to open my tailgate to the flat position without it hitting the carrier rails? I have a 2007 Dodge Ram SLT 1500. My 2inch hitch receiver is after market made by TYGER. What carrier versions would you recommend?

If the hitch on your 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 is like other aftermarket hitches then the receiver will be directly below the rear bumper. Measure from the top of the receiver opening up to the tailgate when the tailgate is lowered.
If that distance is greater than 9-3/4 inches then cargo carrier # C18152 will fit with the tailgate down.
I actually recommend a carrier with a straight shank and/or a low side wall height such as # CC-100. Lowering the tailgate would not be an issue with this carrier. I have included a link to a video review showing this carrier on a similar truck.
Please note if your exhaust tips point straight back at the rear of the truck then you would not want to use this carrier and would want something with a rise in the shank such as # PS1040100 which will be approximately 7 inches from the top of the receiver opening to the top of the rails on the carrier.
