How To Determine Which Fabrication Shank Is Needed For 2-Inch Trailer Hitch And Cargo Basket

Question:

Hi there. I am looking for a towing hitch tubeinch that can fit into my 2inch tow hitch receiver and then fit into my 2inch basket receiver. My basket currently does not have a way to attach to my tow hitch. Everything I have found is an adapter from one size to the next. I need a straight tube that fits into a 2inch receiver and with pin holes on both ends. One end to secure to basket and one to secure to my tow hitch receiver. Do you all have any products like this? Thank you.

It sounds like you need an adapter that will fit into the 2-inch trailer hitch receiver on your vehicle and also be able to attach your cargo basket that uses a 2-inch shank.

If that is the case we do offer solid steel fabrication shank bars that will work for you. You will need to determine how long the shank needs to be. You will need to measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole on your trailer hitch to the end of the receiver tube first. Then measure the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the end of the receiver tube on your basket. You will need to make sure to add additional length so you have enough clearance for the basket at the rear of your towing vehicle.

If you find that a 12-inch bar will work for you I recommend part # D30. One hole is already drilled in the shank for a hitch pin. You will need to determine where the hole for the receiver on your basket is needed and drill a 5/8-inch diameter hole for the basket. The best way to do this is to insert the end with the hole into the trailer hitch receiver and insert a hitch pin like part # PC3. Then insert the basket over the other end and mark where the hole needs to be drilled while confirming clearance from the vehicle.

I have attached a link to the fabrication shanks you can check out and choose the shank that will work for you.
