Light Weight Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2015 Honda CR-V with 2 Inch Trailer Hitch

Question:

I have a 2015 Honda CR-V with a 2inch hitch. I am looking for a simple light weight hitch rack. I thought the Beta might be perfect for my needs. The more I read the more I feel a platform style, like the Sherpa, may be a better choice. I am concerned that the Beta may be too light. I also wonder about the durability of its traps.I havent been using my existing hitch rack, an old Saris, a lot, but feel that may change. I do not anticipate needing to transport more than two bikes. Any thoughts or other racks I should consider? I enjoy reading your site.

If it were me I would go with the new Sherpa, # SH22G, over the Beta because the Sherpa is more versatile. With the Beta you may need to use a bike adapter bar to carry the bikes level if the bikes do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across.

The Sherpa is light for a platform rack at just 32 pounds so it definitely fits that requirement. I have linked a video review of the Sherpa for you on a slightly older CR-V.

Another option you might like is the Saris Freedom # SA4412B. This rack weighs just 22-1/2 pounds but is built to the high quality standards of Saris. It holds the bikes at the wheels and frame so if your bikes have fenders and can't fit on the Sherpa, the Freedom is an excellent choice. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles like the Sherpa but it costs much less. I have linked a video of this bike rack as well.
