Trunk Mount Bike Rack that Won't Touch Spoiler on a 2016 Ford Explorer

Question:

Please advise which bike rack will best fit the Ford without damaging the spoiler. I see that you show some racks with the strap attaching at the top of the rear door and lying on the spoiler, will this not cause damage?

The rear spoiler at the top of the hatch on the 2016 Ford Explorer is not meant to support weight. Because of this there is one type of trunk mount bike rack I recommend; the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top rack # HRF2.

This rack has an extra arm piece to move the top straps up and over the spoiler so no weight is put on it. I have included a link to a video showing this rack on a 2015 Explorer. You don't have to have a roof rack like the model in the picture for it to work. There are other methods of attachment for the top straps if that is the case.

If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # 64005. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have linked a video showing how the adapter works.
