Recommended Weight Distribution System With Anti-Sway for 2013 Ram 1500 Towing 20-Ft Trailer

Question:

Hello, With my 2013 ram 1500 with load lifter air bag system I will be towing a 20 foot enclosed car hauler. Firstly with the air bags do I still need the weight dist sway bar system? If so is the one I indicated in the subgect line the right one for my use?

The air bag system will not increase the weight carrying capacity of your Ram, but if the trailer weighs more than half of the weight of your truck or if you feel the trailer sway when towing due to high winds or large passing trucks I recommend a weight distribution system for your Ram.

I recommend adjusting the air bags on your truck before setting up a weight distribution system. Doing that means your truck will return to the right level when you are not towing.

When selecting a system you will need to know the total tongue weight. Total tongue weight is the tongue weight of your trailer when it is fully loaded and ready to tow added to the weight of any cargo placed behind the rear axle of the towing vehicle. You want to choose a system where your total tongue weight falls near the middle of the tongue weight range of the system.

For example, if your total tongue weight is about 1,000 lbs I recommend a system like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control, part # EQ37120ET. This system is designed for tongue weight between 800 and 1200 lbs. This system also has 4-point sway control to help keep the trailer steady when travelling.

The weight distribution system you came from has a tongue weight capacity of 1000-lbs, and it does not feature sway-control.

If you find your tongue weight is more or less than what would work with the system I recommended let me know and I will be glad to make recommendations that will work for you.
