Question:
the lip around the product is very little on the top and bottom. I have a hard time wanting to cut the hole. knowing the integrity of the unit mounted in a thin sheet metal trailer wall. plus there is no sleeve or other half to keep water or rain out if it was open. instead water will enter into the hollow wall.

The Side Cowl Ventilator with Screen, part # PLR1715 is really not designed for a travel trailer application.
This vent is made to be used for an enclosed trailer that normally has an outer wall the vent is mounted on and access to the vent from the inside. The vent can be riveted or welded on.
I recommend using a silicone sealant when installing the vent so you can prevent water from getting inside the trailer. The mounting flange measures 6-15/16 inches x 11-5/8 inches and the lid dimensions measure 5-3/16 inches x 10-7/16 inches so you have nearly an inch all the way around for the hardware.
