Trunk Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for 2005 Subaru Legacy Wagon

Question:

I am looking for a bicycle rack non hitch to put on my 2005 Legacy Wagon similar to an Outback but a bit smaller. I am thinking the racks that fit an Outback would work on my Legacy Wagon but wanted to make sure. Would the Hollywood Rack over the top 3 be the way to go? Thanks.

I have a bike rack recommendation for you, but the Hollywood Racks Over-The-Top trunk mount bike rack is not confirmed to fit your 2005 Subaru Legacy Wagon. Instead, I recommend the Yakima FullBack 3 Bike Rack # Y02633 because it features a simpler 4 strap mounting system rather than the traditional 6 strap system, has Yakima's SuperCush anti-sway cradles to support your bikes and prevent them from contacting each other during travel, and the rack comes with a steel reinforced security cable to lock the rack to the trunk when the truck is shut and locked.

I've attached a review video of this rack on a similar Subaru for you. I've also attached a photo from Yakima showing what the FullBack's brother, the HalfBack # Y02635, looks like installed on a similar Legacy Wagon. The HalfBack is no longer available but had the same features except did not have quite as many bells and whistles, such as the security cable. It will still show you how the Fullback would look on a Subaru similar to yours.

If you plan on carrying a women's or step-through frames, or bikes that have a slanted top frame tube, I recommend using a bike adapter bar, such as the Kuat Ubar # UB01 to carry your bike level on the rack. I've attached a video of this adapter bar as well.
