Prodigy RF or P2/P3 Comparison

Question:

Hi - Three questions to help decide between wired and RF brake controller: 1. Where is the best place to mount the brake controller? The reason I ask is the wired controller looks like it mounts screwed under the dash, while the RF version just sits on the dash which means Id have to worry about it sliding around. 2. Does the RF controller have the identical performance characteristics or are there differences between the RF and a wired unit? It looks like there are more options and features on the hardwired controllers e.g. Prodigy P3. 3. I read that the controller should be re-initialized at the start of each vacation. Is this true with both the hardwired and the RF unit? Thanks for your help on this decision.

Both RF- and wired-type proportional Prodigy brake controllers use an accelerometer to detect braking in the tow vehicle in order to send a proportional brake signal to the trailer brakes. Performance wise they would be identical.

The P2 does have to be mounted facing a certain direction so that it can properly sense decoration though so you would need to consider that as well.

The RF # TK94FR doesn't require any permanent modification to install though which is nice and the remote can easily be tucked away when you aren't towing. The Prodigy will basically be out all the time. Best place to mount is on the dash board to the right of your legs basically where you can easily grab the override lever if needed.

The P3 part # 90195 has the most features and is the easiest to read and understand. It's a good idea to make sure the controller is set up properly every time you tow with it but in most cases you don't have to make any major adjustment.
