Does Ground Wire of the Curt 7-Way Adapter part # C57674 Need to Be Grounded

Question:

Purchased product. Watched videos. Seems half of the installation videos show a ground wire being tapped, half do not. Is that because some 4-pin connectors are already grounded through their own white wire? Plugged product in to after market 4-pin connector, and turned on the turn signals, running lights, brake lights. None of the LEDs on the product light up. Is that because I dont have the trailer connected? Or because Im not correctly grounded? Have towed using this vehicle before, a Nissan Murano with an after market tow receiver and electrical. The lights on the trailer pulled previously lit fine. Im probably being overly anxious because the vehicle and the popup camper cant be put together in the same place until the last minute, and I want to have as much in place before I have to tow the unit.

If you are concerned that your # C57674 isn't working properly first thing you should do is ground the white wire. Then use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to test the pins of the 4-way and 7-way of the adapter if the lights still aren't coming on. They should be working at this point but the circuit tester will be the final authority on whether or not the circuits are active. Since ground problems can be a headache I always recommend grounding the strap of the part # C57674.
