Which Fastway Weight Distribution System for 5,100 lb Racecar Trailer

Question:

I like the sway control without the use of chains and without the need to release before backing up. I have a 1500 Silverado pulling an 18foot carson car hauler trailer with a 1970 Camaro with a 572 ci big block racing engine, trailer empty weighs 1720 car weighs around 3300, then tie downs etc... total weight is a little over 5100 pounds. trailers GTW is rated to 7000 pounds. depending on how far forward I load the car dramatically increases the tongue weight. Should I opt for the 8000 pound GTW with 800 pound TW or step up to 10,000 and 1000 respectively?

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

When you load your trailer you would want to move the car as forward as possible as that will help prevent sway. This would be considered the first line of defense against trailer sway. Since tongue weight is typically 10 to 15 percent of the trailer weight and your BBC is most likely a large part of your trailer weight your tongue weight is going to be realistically around 765 lbs if your trailer weighs 5,100 lbs.

Since right at the max for the system you referenced your better choice will be the part # FA92-00-1000 which has a tongue weight range around 700-1,000 lbs.
