Recommended Wiring When Adding 7-Way Trailer Connector To 2016 Ford Escape
Question:
I have a 4-pin converter box with a run to my battery. Can I tap the 12v wire running to the battery, just before the converter box, to add the 12v hot to the 7-pin connector? It looks like its inline fused near the battery. Ill use a wireless RF brake controller with this set up

First, I would recommend using part # 37185 instead of the # C57674 you mentioned because the test lamps on the connector can cause issues with the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller, part # TK94FR.
The best way to run the system is to connect the black wire from the # 37185 directly to the positive battery post for your 12V power on the 7-way.
This prevents any issues with power draw and possibly performance problems with the lights on the trailer. I have attached a drawing that shows how wiring should be run when adding a 7-way to your Escape. You can cap the lines from the 7-way you are not planning on using.
When working with electrical connections I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This helps keep moisture and dirt out of the connections.
